Amazon SES pricing calculator

A monthly SES bill split into messages, message data, dedicated IPs and inbound mail, on the pricing your account is actually on. Since July 21, 2026 new accounts start on the Essentials plan, not on the old $0.10 rate.

What do 50,000 emails a month cost on Amazon SES? (US East, prices checked 2026-10-18)

At 30 KB each, $8.18 on the Essentials plan that new accounts start on: $8.00 for the messages (50,000 x $0.16 per 1,000) and $0.18 for 1.5 GB of message data. The same mail on a la carte pricing costs $5.18. Switching is a setting in the SES console's Pricing plan section, and it only makes sense if you don't need what Essentials bundles.

Why the SES line grows

For years SES had one price: ten cents per thousand emails, plus a little for the size of each message. That is still on offer as "a la carte", but since July 21, 2026 a new account, or an account that hasn't sent through SES since June 1, 2025, starts on the Essentials plan at $0.16 per thousand. Essentials bundles deliverability tooling, which is worth paying for if you use it. If you only send password resets and receipts, you are paying 60% more per message for features you never open.

The free tier went at the same time. New accounts no longer get the 3,000 free messages a month for the first year that most "SES is basically free" advice is built on.

Message size is the line people forget. Every byte of every message counts, attachments included, at $0.12 per GB. A 30 KB receipt costs almost nothing extra. A 2 MB PDF invoice on every order adds $0.24 per thousand emails, more than the message price itself on a la carte.

Dedicated IPs are a fixed $24.95 each per month, and one is rarely worth it below a few hundred thousand emails a month, because a new IP has no reputation and has to be warmed up. Below that, the shared pool usually delivers better.
