Hetzner vs AWS cost calculator
Pick the EC2 instance you run today. You get its monthly AWS bill line by line, the Hetzner Cloud server with at least the same vCPUs and memory, and what that one would cost with the same traffic.
How much cheaper is Hetzner than AWS? (list prices checked 2026-10-22)
An m7i.xlarge (4 vCPU, 16 GiB) in US East with 160 GB of gp3 and a public IPv4 address costs $163.62 a month; with 2 TB of traffic out it is $338.94. A Hetzner CCX23 (4 dedicated vCPU, 16 GB, 160 GB disk) in Germany or Finland is €86.49, about $97.16, with 20 TB of traffic included. That is about 41% less for the server and 71% less with the traffic.

Prices checked 2026-10-22. AWS: EC2 On-Demand Linux in US East (N. Virginia) from the price list behind aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/on-demand, 730 hours a month; gp3 at $0.08 per GB-month; a public IPv4 address at $0.005 an hour; data transfer out with 100 GB free a month, then $0.09 per GB up to 10 TB, $0.085 to 50 TB, $0.07 to 150 TB and $0.05 after. Hetzner: hetzner.com/cloud monthly prices in EUR, which include the server's disk, one IPv4 address and its traffic allowance (20 to 60 TB in the EU, 1 to 8 TB in the US); each extra TB is €1. Both excl. VAT. EUR converted at the ECB reference rate of 2026-10-21 unless you change it. Not included: Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, snapshots and backups, load balancers, managed databases and traffic between AWS services.
Why the gap is bigger than the server price
On the server alone, Hetzner's dedicated plans cost about 40 to 50% less than the matching m7i instance at today's prices. Hetzner raised its cloud prices in June 2026, so comparisons written before then show a bigger server gap than you will get today. Graviton (m8g) narrows it a little more: about 11% less than m7i for the same size.
Traffic is where the two bills split apart. AWS charges for every gigabyte your servers send to the internet after the first 100 GB a month, $0.09 each for the first 10 TB. Hetzner includes at least 20 TB with every EU cloud server and charges €1 per TB after that. An API that serves images or files can pay more for traffic than for the server on AWS, and almost nothing for it on Hetzner. If "Data Transfer" is a large line on your AWS bill, that is the strongest sign a move pays off.
The US is different. Hetzner's Ashburn and Hillsboro locations include only 1 to 8 TB per server, so a traffic-heavy app saves less there. Shared-vCPU CPX plans in the sizes above are only sold in the EU.
The calculator compares servers. A real move also has to account for what Hetzner Cloud doesn't offer, like a managed Postgres to replace RDS (price that with the RDS calculator), and for the time someone spends running it. Our post Hetzner vs AWS: what moving actually saves goes through that part. If the numbers look worth it, this is how we move products to EU providers without taking them down, or send us your AWS bill and we'll tell you for free whether moving is the cheapest fix.
